Andersons Childrens tale

The story is told through the minds of two young children who are in a sanitorium at the turn of the 20th century.

Costume drawing for Gerda
All the characters are in the imagination of the children and are performed by the other inmates and staff of the institution.
Image showing the last moments of the performance where the windows have fallen away and theoutside world floods in and the children are free to leave.
The performance space had an overhead gantry to maximise vertical space and create an environment that the audience were enveloped in the experience.
The white tiled walls allowed the children to suggest the scenes by drawing indicative sketches on the
walls and floor
I wanted to create an exciting space and experience for the audience (mainly children) I didnt think that a menatl assylum would be too difficult for them to grasp.
The glow from the outside world reminds the audience and the children of the hope of escape
